About Me

Discover a world of possibilities

I’m Emma Barnhouse, a passionate life-long learner dedicated to finding creative, community-driven solutions in any environment. My career is defined by my ability to thrive in dynamic, challenging situations and my natural inclination toward leadership roles.

Professional Highlights:

In my first year at The DEC Network, I was honored as a top talent and received the MVP Award from the non-profit’s staff and board. These accolades reflect my ability to learn on the job, adapt quickly, and contribute meaningfully to organizational goals. My role involved leading strategic initiatives, fostering community partnerships, and driving impactful projects that supported entrepreneurs and small businesses in Dallas.

As the Director of Operations for Modus Opus, a software startup specializing in data, I manage relationships with our 10 regular clients and consult with partner companies on PR and marketing strategies. My key responsibilities include keeping development and client needs on track, prioritizing billing hours, and creating strong, lasting relationships with our clients. My strategic approach ensures that our projects align with client objectives while driving business growth.

Academic Achievements:

During my undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, I majored in Communication and Rhetoric, tackling challenging questions and topics that honed my analytical and critical thinking skills. Two of my awarded works are showcased on this site, reflecting my dedication to academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. I am excited to continue this journey as I begin my graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University in Spring 2024, where I will further explore the intersections of communication, technology, and innovation.

Community Involvement:

I am proud to serve on the board of Serve City, a nonprofit organization dedicated to introducing middle and high school students to service opportunities in their communities. This organization is expanding nationwide, with new cities being added through a multi-year, scaffolded approach. My role involves strategic planning, community outreach, and program development, helping to inspire the next generation of volunteers and leaders.

Creative Ventures:

This site is a living portfolio—a creative outlet for my frontend design skills, which I’ve developed as a hobby over the past year. My interest in design was sparked by the need to create engaging, user-friendly interfaces for our clients at Modus Opus. Scroll and click to explore my projects, which showcase my interests, achievements, lessons learned, and future endeavors. I am eager to share my work with the world and look forward to connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations.
